Mike Moustakas
Bats: L, Throws: R
6-1, 200
2009 Opening Day age: 20 (B: 9/11/88)
Drafted: Royals # 1 (#2 overall) 2007 draft
2009 club at time of report: Wilmington
Games Seen: 1, Innings: 4 (Also saw BP and numerous times in HS)

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Average height, compact body; strong upper half; high legs despite average height. Looks physically matured; will have to watch body as he ages.

STRENGTHS: Ability to make contact and drive ball. Fast hands, kept close to body; likes to go inside-out, generates torque with hands; can roll a poll. Above-average arm; good athletic actions for body type; will run enough to play.

WEAKNESSES: Still a work in progress defensively. Offensively just learning; improvement can be seen from HS to now, though probably more gradual than expected. Still needs to develop ability to use opposite field when in a slump.

SUMMARY: Still on course to become solid every day major league player with All-Star abilities in best years; grades as a definite prospect. Should have 20 HR power. Can’t teach hands and ability to drive ball; smokes balls he gets to. Will probably be pitched consistently away as ML hitter; needs to make that adjustment but see no reason why he should not.
