Yordy Cabrera will never get to the University of Miami with showings like this. He won the AFLAC home run derby Sunday afternoon at Petco Park.
He pulled five balls for home runs during the pre-game derby, whipping his first shot down the left field line. He followed with home runs that traveled 398, 371, 376 and 380 feet. It’s the 398 foot shot to left-center field, nearly the deepest part of Petco Park. His shot landed just to the left of the 401-marker.
For the record, Cabrera’s 398-foot home run would be about 55 on the 20/80 scouting scale right now. He’s got a body that is reminiscent of Miguel Cabrera. With his body, balance and bat speed Cabrera has major league regular written on him.
Kris Bryant, a lanky and projectable 6-5, 205 first baseman from Bonanza HS (Las Vegas) hit two home runs, measured at 371 and 368 feet. Bryce Harper hit three home runs, measuring 368, 381 and 379 feet.
