Tyler Blandford, RHP
Games Seen: 1, Innings: 3 (July, 2009 at UC Santa Barbara)
Club: Santa Barbara Foresters (California Collegiate League)
6-3, 190
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Slightly above-average height, durable shoulders and frame, lanky with a little bit more room to physically mature. Loose and whippy arm, doesn’t have a stiff back.
STRENGTHS: Plus, plus raw right-handed arm speed. FB topped 96, pitched at 92-94, downhill, late life. SL primary secondary pitch, avg. 83, some life and depth. DNS CB or CH.
WEAKNESSES: In-and-out of delivery; hadn’t pitched live in almost two months. Can’t hide arm speed, but a little labored and at times under the ball, both correctable. Will need third pitch to be a starter. Threw 95% fastballs here. Has arm strength to find most comfortable and effective slot.
SUMMARY: Agile mound athlete; aggressive mannerisms, power stuff, plus arm speed. Fast mover as RH bullpen arm; wouldn’t rule out starting in future. Like arm speed, arm action and athleticism. Believe he could be ML starter. Aggressive mound persona plays well in late innings; would like to see how he adjusts in longer stints. Feel he has aptitude for adjustments.
