First look scouting video, Ryon Healy (2010 Draft)

Ryon Healy is known as a two-way high school player, but his offense is what will one day get him drafted. We caught this BP video of Healy playing for the Brewers scout team at USC, where parking is eight bucks and traffic is horrible. Thankfully there were some good prospects here, such as Healy, Christian Yelich, Rouric Bridgewater, Angelo Gumbs and Tony Wolters. Austin Wilson wasn’t in the day I was. To the video:

Healy has a chance to profile nicely as a right-handed hitting first baseman with some power. His body profiles very well for that job. He’s got the look of a gap-to-gap guy, but when you look in the crystal ball and ask if this guy is going to be a major league player, the question you have to ask is will he have 20 home run power to play a corner in the big leagues. That’s the standard he will be held to as a professional.

Healy will tell us the answer, but he’s got the talent to answer yes. In the meantime, Healy might be best suited to be a college player first to add muscle. He’s the kind of offensive player I can envision opening eyes nation wide on the Cape. In July, he committed to Oregon, where he may find himself playing next to Jack Marder.
