Baseball Prospect Report

As a scout, you have to like Frankie Christian’s demeanor. He’s a guy who clearly has fun and likes to stay loose. A lot of guys bring the game face to scout ball, but Frankie spent his time hitting and smiling. Have a look at some BP and game video from Angels Elite, then we’ll share our thoughts.

Christian (Upland HS) has good hands, but he’s still learning to consistently square balls up with wood. He will be strong enough to get some balls out of the park, but I won’t expect massive power numbers down the line.  He has two tools that are physical assets right now, his arm and his speed.  You can’t teach those and you can’t cheat to get them.

Right now, I think his arm is his best pro tool. He’s got a quick release, easy arm action and he can make the throw from the left field warning track to the right field line without max effort. He’s a left-handed hitter with at least average speed on the pro scale. Body wise, I’ve seen Jacque Jones comparisons, but I think he reminds me more of Eric Young. Athletically, Christian has many advantages other high school kids won’t have. The bat is what will determine his fate and it’ll be interesting to see what kind of player he becomes.  In conclusion, I think he’s got some potential, but also some work to do. Some scouts flat out dismiss athleticsm without polish. That ain’t me. What are the minor leagues for? Teaching or fast-tracking?
