2010 MLB Draft Day age: 18
Report Made November 9, 2009
Games Seen: 1, Innings: 2 (Aflac)
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Tall and rugged body type; more put together than most 6-7 guys. Durable frame but should watch body.
STRENGTHS: FB 93-96 with late life, SL 84 with tail and life, CH 76. Whippy torque and arm action, arm speed plus, arm action is over the top, medium-effort delivery type, creates downhill and is getting arm extension, lands surprisingly smoothly for large man. Average athleticism and body control. FB has action up in zone; extra little bump, his greatest weapon. Hard SL and average control of it; will be an out pitch in ML.
WEAKNESSES: Delivery needs to stay consistently closed, corrections that can be made upon signing. Needs to continue developing deception. Fastball command needs to improve upon signing; will dictate large part of his future success. CH a little raw yet; would like to see this become capable third ML pitch. Delivery points very important for pitcher with this sort of frame; must be certain he does not put non-essential stress on elbow.
SUMMARY: Raw, hard-throwing prospect should sign after HS and begin pro training. Great, great power arm but needs to harness control and mechanics to maximize success. All the physical tools are here, and if he makes proper adjustments upon signing, he should have a relatively fast track to the big leagues. Could see him follow Kershaw-like career path, HS to big leagues in two years. Comparable to John Lackey in size and stuff.
