Games: 1, Innings: 2 (Aflac)
Report Made: November 1, 2009
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Stocky, powerfully built through thighs and hips; long arms and average leg length but muscular lower half.
STRENGTHS: Four-seam fastball at 95-96, two-seam with cut action, 90-92, with command on both sides. CB at 74-76, SL 84-88, hard, differing plane from cutter; split 91, CH 72. Advanced feel for changing speeds; likes to experiment on the fly; not afraid to show different looks at different times; has feel for getting most out of a wide array of pitches. Feel for attatcking hitters and cutting the plate in half. Modest height will dissuade some teams but it shouldn’t because of durable frame and over the top delivery. Very smooth and easy arm action, uses the back half to push off and lands nicely. Hard thrower but not a max effort guy, instincts way off the charts for an amateur, probably has something to do with Dad’s influence. Gets great arm extension and downhill plane; aggressive mound persona.
WEAKNESSES: No physical projection, but he may have enough with what he’s got. Will benefit from pro instruction to sift out which pitches will be best at ML level and which pitches should be discarded if they take too much from his primary weapons. Will need to prove upon signing that he can withstand a starter’s workload; would advise he be given chance to do so; believe smooth arm action and strong lower half will combine to give him the opportunity. Will probably have to fend off those who want to make him a closer.
SUMMARY: Chance to develop into a three-four pitch innings eating major league starter on a contending team.
Overall Future Potential (OFP): 55
