Karsten Whitson, RHP
6-4, 190
Chipley High School (Chipley, Fl.)
Games Seen: 2, Innings: 4
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Tall, still growing into body. Much physical projection remaining, growth cycles messing with his mechanics.
STRENGTHS: Fastball at 91-94 with average movement, sometimes with late life. Fast arm, stays closed well for a tall pitcher, gets modest arm extension. Hard slider at 81-84 projects to be primary secondary pitch and change-up at 75-77 is a work in progress and could become viable third pitch. Good body type for right-handed pitcher, pro side will love him.
WEAKNESSES: Hooks his wrist, should be corrected as pro. Inexperienced pitcher. Stiff body more than loose, inconsistent arm extension. Doesn’t use backside and below average command now.
SUMMARY: Has ceiling and just getting started – long way to go with his physical projection – chance to become three-pitch ML starting pitcher. Has the raw physical tools; needs experience and instruction. Potential closer candidate if third pitch doesn’t develop.
