Kevin Ziomek will get plenty of good looks in Massachusetts this spring. This left-handed starter is not a power arm, but rather a whippy arm and torque kind of guy who could be a serious dude in college if he adds more muscle and is able to create more separation. He’ll be on every area guy’s turn-in list out of the Northeast. He has committed to Vanderbilt and the view from here is that it’s a pretty good fit for this kind of pitcher.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Modest height and frame, yet to physically mature. Decent physical projection and lanky build, adequate coordination.

STRENGTHS: Fastball 87-91 with glove-side tail, average command. Slider at 73-76 should continue developing into hardest off-speed weapon and primary weapon; pitch has tilt into RHH, some lateness of movement. Best when not dragging through ball in back-end.

WEAKNESSES: Doesn’t consistently use back half, can drag through the ball. Won’t be a power arm. Curveball 74-75, limited shape and life, takes away from his slider. Lacks raw arm power. Needs to create more separation between all pitches.

SUMMARY: Better suited for college at this stage; lacks power he would require coming out of high school. Needs to add strength and stamina in college. Chance to be a much better draft pick in three years, see room for 2-3 MPH growth on fastball and SL depth should improve. CH will be enough for average third pitch and needs to improve it. Don’t see this as guy as a premium ML LHP, but do see him as No. 4 starter who should have industry value. National League best fit.
