Scouting Report: Robbie Aviles, RHP, Suffern (NY) HS (2010 Draft)

I’ve seen enough of Robbie Aviles to convince me that he’d be getting looks no matter what part of the country he is from. He possesses a fast arm and a right-handed frame suitable for physical projection.
ROBBIE AVILES
6-4, 190, RHP
Suffern HS, Suffern NY
Games Seen: 3, Innings: 6
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Thin and wiry frame, loose and smooth athletic actions, balanced and gaining coordination; whippy arm speed and positive arm action.
STRENGTHS: FB 90-93, will pitch with four-seam FB at 91-92, two-seam FB 88-91. Hard true slider at 88 will be primary secondary weapon.
WEAKNESSES: Overall command average to below-average on pro scale, needs polish and improvement in coming years. Needs to develop better delivery consistency; both factors should be correctable. Softer curveball at 73-76, lacked shape and power. Occasional CH at 83 could be better third pitch for him in coming years.
SUMMARY: Smooth pitcher with live arm, should develop more explosiveness in coming years as growth cycles end and he develops more extension and downhill plane. Liked pitcher’s composure and mound presence; could be closer candidate in coming years if third pitch doesn’t become weapon.
GRADES: (Present/Future)
Fastball 50/65
Slider 40/55
Change-up 30/50
Command 30/50
Delivery 35/50
Overall Future Potential (OFP): 54
