Scouting Report: Mike Olt, 3B, UCONN (2010 Draft)

Mike Olt played for Orleans in the Cape Cod League in 2009, where the gunshots coming off his wooden bat were pretty hard to miss. Olt’s body reminded me of Ryan Zimmerman and his offensive platform reminded me of Troy Tulowitzki. I might sound like I’m over-grading the guy, but I know power when I see it.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Broad shoulders, strong hands, forearms and shoulders. Physically put together. Ryan Zimmerman type body.

STRENGTHS: Plus, plus raw power to all fields. Quiet head, good hands, plus bat speed, firm front side, balanced and raw strength. Above-average arm, good and improving athletic actions for big guy around the bag; should be slightly above-average hitter. Can stay at 3B.

WEAKNESSES: Below-average runner. Agility and footwork has room for improvement defensively. Will take some strikeouts but won’t be one-dimensional hitter.

SUMMARY: Chance to become premium ML 3B with above-average power.
