Scouting Report: Nathan Foriest, LHP, Harpeth (TN) HS (2010 Draft)
By John Klima
January 20, 2010
Nathan Foriest would fit right in as another talented left-handed starter at Ole Miss, if he gets that far.
Nathan Foriest, LHP
6-2, 190
Harpeth HS, Kingston Springs, TN
Games seen: 2, Innings: 5
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Slightly above-average height, broad shoulders, durable hips and thighs, medium sized limbs, rangy with modest physical projection.
STRENGTHS: FB 91-93, hard run into RHH, overall good movement, should improve with work and innings. Hard SL, 84-84, is secondary weapon. Good arm speed, balance and torque, closed mechanics and extension, stays true to target.
WEAKNESSES: CH needs development as third pitch as pro or collegian. Overall command needs to come up a few notches.
SUMMARY: Above-average LH arm and body type gives him chance to become ML starter. Should pitch at 92-93 in future. Loose arm and athletic actions, balanced and lands well. Chance to be a very good draft pick in three years; would be comfortable drafting out of HS based on talent and projection.
GRADES (Present/Future):
Fastball 40/55
Slider 40/55
Change-up 35/50
Command 30/50
Overall Future Potential: 53
