Scouting Report: Yordy Cabrera, INF, Lakeland (FL) HS (2010 Draft)
By John Klima
January 22, 2010
Yordy Cabrera has raw right-handed power, which is the tool that is going to make him a first-round pick. He has some competitive secondary tools – speed and an arm you can use – but let’s be serious. The dollar sign is on the power.
Yordy Cabera
6-4, 190
R/R
Lakeland (Fl.) HS
Games seen: 1, Innings: 9
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Tall, thick, muscular frame, barrel chest, strong hips and thighs, durable frame, should watch body.
STRENGTHS: Plus, plus right-handed power. Average runner, slow first step, better underway. Fast hands and quickness with hands, likes to get extended. Above-average arm strength.
WEAKNESSES: Needs at-bats to show consistent approach and not solely pull approach. Arm to stay at third base, but range and big frame might force move to first.
SUMMARY: Very desirable right-handed hitting power prospects. Good amateur tools with arm and speed, but foresee this player settling into middle-of-order power bat reminiscent of Pat Burrell.
GRADES (Present/Future):
Hit 35/55
Power 40/70
Run 50/50
Arm 50/50
Field 40/50
Overall Future Potential: 55
