Scouting Video: Zach Alvord, INF, South Forsyth (GA) HS (2010 Draft)

If Zach Alvord is a first round pick, it will be a projection pick. You can see why in some of this video and then we’ll further break this player down.
When I saw Alvord in August, I thought he possessed some physical projection in terms of room for muscle, but that his lower center of gravity was a slight concern for me. However, Alvord’s best tools are his bat and his hands, which might negate those concerns. I felt he would be better served playing college baseball, where his commitment is to Auburn. There, he would fill in and get stronger before embarking into pro ball. Plus, I’d get to see him on the Cape, which would be good.
Second base is where his skills and body type would give him the best chance to succeed over the longest period of time. I think he’d be athletic enough to cover that ground and make the throw across the body. Looking into the crystal ball, you could see this guy as an offensive-minded second baseman. I would anticipate him as a late first-round to early third round pick.
