John Klima | March 11, 2010

Taijuan Walker made his 2010 season debut Tuesday afternoon at Palos Verdes, working three innings in which he showed what he’s got to offer, what he’s learning, and where he may be going.

The best scouting is done when the player doesn’t know anyone is watching. Here’s a look at Arkansas third baseman Zack Cox in early work, showing his swing. Take a look and we’ll break him down.

Dylan Covey struck out 12 in five innings in his season debut Friday night in Pasadena, showing four pitches and fastball command beyond typical high school right-handed power arms.

Scouting Update: Jesus Valdez, RHP, Hueneme (CA) HS (2010 Draft)

John Klima | March 5, 2010

Jesus Valdez made his season debut Friday at Chatsworth HS, but the right-hander did not separate himself. Valdez hit 91-92 in the first inning with his four-seam fastball, no change from when we saw him at the Area Code Games or the Scouting Bureau workout.

Scouting Report: Leon Landry, OF, LSU (2010 Draft)

John Klima | March 5, 2010

Leon Landry was one of the players I liked best in the 2009 Cape Cod League, and I’ll tell you why: the guy showed me three weapons that can beat you. Landry has left-handed power, left-handed gap-to-gap ability, and he can run just enough to be dangerous. He’ll catch what he gets to and would have maximum value in center field. Most of all, he brought his tools into the games with him, which excited me. You can watch the video here and read the report after the jump.

Scouting Report: Jared Lakind, 1B, Cypress Woods (TX) HS (2010 Draft)

John Klima | March 3, 2010

I’ve mentioned before that Jared Lakind reminds me of Arizona Diamondbacks prospect Ryan Wheeler. Lakind is more advanced than Wheeler at the same age, but both guys project to become durable corner types with power. I think, at this stage, Lakind will have more power and Wheeler will be the higher average guy. Looking into the crystal ball, Lakind should have mid-20s home run power in years to come.

Scouting Report: Shane Rowland, C, Tampa Catholic (FL) HS (2010 Draft)

John Klima | February 26, 2010

Shane Rowland is so good defensively behind the plate that they might want to consider renaming this guy Rocking Chair Rowland. Read the scouting report and learn why.

Scouting Report: Josh Sale, Bishop Blanchet (WA) HS (2010 Draft)

John Klima | February 24, 2010

Josh Sale has legitimate raw left-handed power, which is his best tool. As he develops as a pro, he’ll have to raise some other aspects of his game, but I’m a firm believer that you can’t give a guy power, even in this day and age.

Scouting Snapshot: Drew Pomeranz, LHP, Ole Miss (2010 Draft)

John Klima | February 21, 2010

Pomeranz reminds me a lot of 2009’s big-time SEC LHP starting prospect, Vanderbilt’s Mike Minor.
