Josh Rutledge is helping himself with a solid 2010 season at Alabama. The one thing about this guy that I’m not sure about is just how much power he will have as a pro. I think he’s strong and likes to get extension. I put a 55 on his power in my original report. He might exceed that.

Alabama shortstop Josh Rutledge doesn’t have one skill that stands out above the others, but what he does have is a durable frame and the indications that he may have offensive growth in store. Rutledge is a very quiet hitter, which means his swing and approach don’t have many moving parts. He has a sense for letting pitches get to him and driving them back up the middle. When he enters professional baseball after college, he won’t be the most athletic, the fastest, or the flashiest athlete on the field. But he has a chance to be a very sound professional, who could help himself with occassional power, spray hitting, versatility and defense.

Moving onto infielders, this list is mostly drawn from the clubs Baseball Beginnings had a look at on the Cape. As we stated in our high school lists for pitchers, infielders, outfielders and catchers, and our college list of pitchers, our college lists are not meant to be taken as definitive this early in the process. As Letterman used to say, please, no wagering in the audience (unless you’re an agent or a team).
