By John Klima

I have seen Travis Harrison from 2009 and into summer 2010 and will pick up his coverage again soon. The thing you come in to see him for is the raw right-handed power.

SAN DIEGO – With apologies to anyone else in this baseball game, right-hander Archie Bradley is an absolute horse.

Aflac Home Run Derby and Scrimmage Notes

SAN DIEGO — Here’s a look at what you got in a five-inning look Friday and a shortened BP followed by a first-round home run contest Saturday. I have to admit, it wasn’t exactly the full speed infield, use the whole field BP, or every pitcher gets a look type of look I was hoping for. But as happens in games, you have to take what the players give you. The pre-game Sunday infield was much more crisp.

Sometime in this game, left-handed hitting outfielder Billy Flamion smoked a ball high and deep down the left field line. The ball got out of here in a split second. The ball was ruled foul.

Bridgewater Blasts brighten BP

By John Klima
August 5, 2010

Rouric Bridgewater hit the hardest ball of the five-hour long BP session Thursday in the opening of the Area Code Games. Bridgewater, and some of the players who also had good rounds, are among players to keep an eye on in this event. Call it the kickoff of the new Draft cycle, even though a draft cycle never really starts, and it surely never ends.

Scouting Video: Travis Harrison, 3B, Tustin (CA) HS (2011 Draft)

By John Klima
August 3, 2010

Travis Harrison is no well-kept secret by now, a big power-hitting right-handed third baseman from Tustin High School. He’ll be a guy that we cover throughout the draft cycle. Here’s a look at him in BP from summer 2009, where you can get a feel for the strength and the bat speed and lift. I’ll have a fresh look at him soon and look forward to seeing where the progression is. I’ve had sources tell me he has improved a great deal defensively and that he’s shortened his stroke a bit. In the meantime, in a year where there isn’t a whole lot of raw power out there, Harrison should be highly coveted. We’ll have a nice long look coming in the next few weeks.

2011 Draft Sneak Peak: Gentleman, Start Your Horses

By John Klima
June 15, 2010

No sooner does one draft cycle end than the next one begins. The next draft cycle always starts with a group of players pretty much everyone knows, but from now until next June, the draft cycle is nothing but a horserace. What follows are some of the prospects that I have already seen and will see more of in 2011.

This is not meant to be a complete list or a ranking, and if this story is the first time you are discovering Baseball Beginnings, we invite you to stick around throughout the year to see video and read about the players we are talking about. If you stay with us, by the time draft day rolls around, I promise you many players that are not even in this story will come alive for you through video, scouting reports, scouting updates and interviews.

If you’re a 2011 prospect and you’re not in this story, it doesn’t mean you are not a prospect. It just means I haven’t seen you yet. If you can play, chances are I will find you.

Here, then, is a sneak peak at what is inside the 2011 stable, both high school and college, on a national scale.
