Jedd Gyorko has hit everywhere he has played in amateur baseball and there is no doubt that he’s played his way into the draft. Let me say this: I don’t dislike Gyorko. I just don’t like him as a first round talent. The reason is because Gyorko lacks one dominant tool that would give him the potential to be a cornerstone type of offensive third baseman, which is what I would draft for at third base in the first round.

West Virginia’s Jedd Gyorko has hit everywhere he’s been as an amateur ballplayer. Gyorko is an unorthodox player with an unconventional stance and physical features that aren’t cut from the Mike Schmidt mold, but that doesn’t mean he can’t find his way to the big leagues in the future.
Hitting from one of the most closed right-handed stances you’ll find, Gyorko likes to use the entire field and has a very good sense of how to stay within himself. He can make contact, and this will be his best tool as a professional. Gyorko’s ability to drive the ball stems from a strong lower half and a tendency to keep his hands back. His defensive versatility will also be an asset as a pro, and he’ll help himself if he can add a step of speed as a pro.
